What is Infusion Pharmacy?
What is infusion therapy?
Infusion therapy involves the administration of medications using intravenous, subcutaneous and other routes. Drug therapies commonly administered through infusion include antibiotics, chemotherapy, pain management, parenteral nutrition and many others. Diagnosis and conditions commonly requiring infusion therapy include infections, cancer, pain, gastrointestinal diseases or disorders, congestive heart failure, immune disorders, growth hormone deficiencies and more.
Our services are specialized to meet the needs of patients undergoing therapy at home or in a nursing facility. Faith Home Infusion specializes in intravenous medications and feedings, injections and enteral feedings, all of which are referred to as infusion therapies. Faith Home Infusion furnishes all medications, supplies and equipment necessary to deliver the therapy in a successful manner.
Why are infusion therapies performed at home?
Home infusion is for individuals needing long-term therapy while allowing them to live a normal lifestyle. Home infusion has proven to be a safe and effective alternative to inpatient care for many disease stages and therapies. For most patients, receiving treatment at home or in an outpatient setting is preferable to inpatient care. A thorough patient assessment is completed prior to infusion therapy.
How is the patient educated for home therapy?
The success of home therapy depends on all people that are involved, especially the patient’s family members. Before beginning in-home therapy or therapy in a nursing facility, a member of Faith Home Infusion will prepare and educate the patient and family for therapy.
Faith Home Infusion will work with each patient and physician to develop a plan of care that is specific for individual needs.
We will consult with the patient’s physician to determine a detailed analysis of the patient’s individual needs. Prescribed medication and supplies will be delivered to the patient’s home by a member of the Faith Home Infusion's staff. Additional medicine and supplies required will be delivered as needed. If a patient experiences a shortage of anything before a scheduled delivery, they should notify us quickly so a delivery can be made as soon as possible.
There are many local and national online consumer groups providing information, education and support for specific medical conditions. Ask your infusion provider for information about local community organizations. |
